Refractory Construction Manager

About this job
To efficiently coordinate and manage refractory service jobs and ensure safe, profitable, and reputable performance of the job crews.

Duties
Key Responsibilities:
• Coach and mentor existing and future job Supervisors including development and improvement in leadership qualities and technical skills.
• Work with others in the company to develop, maintain, and enhance business systems and standard operating procedures. Commit to adherence to documented methods and standards.
• Manage the warehouse including tool maintenance, housekeeping, and material inventory levels.
• Maintain service records on a fleet of approximately 8-10 trucks and trailers.
• Work with others in the company to hire and dismiss craft employees as needed, based on manpower demands and employee performance.
• Review job estimates with Sales & General Manager for competitiveness and accuracy.
• Assign Supervision to each job crew
• Assign craft labor to Supervisor and coordinate crew logistics for transportation to jobsite.
• Procure and disperse tools and equipment to crew trailers and jobsites
• Coordinate job planning and execution pre and post mobilization as well as during job performance and provide interface for supervisor during job progress.
• Requisition materials for jobs and coordinate deliveries with suppliers and carriers.
• Meet and converse with clients as required for planning a future job or monitoring the progress of an ongoing job.
• Work with General Manager and Supervisors to ensure that job cost budget benchmark performance criteria is met or exceeded.
• Work with Sales and General Manager to ensure that all Firm Price or Time and materials not to exceed job change orders are processed before extra work is performed.
• Review job invoices with General Manager and Accounting Manager to ensure accuracy.
• Conduct post-mortem analysis with supervisors after a job is completed to assist in coaching and mentoring.
• Arrange or perform anything else that is reasonably required to satisfy customers and ensure job success.
Travel Requirements:
Generally, the Southeastern U.S., within an approximate 500 mile range of Chattanooga, Tn. Most travel by car, some air travel if necessary. Amount of travel required will vary, based on workload. Current estimate is as much as 50\% of work time.
Qualifications:
• 5+ Years experience in refractory construction to major industrial clients with a strong knowledge of refractory construction methods including bricklaying, gunning, casting, shotcreting, ramming, welding, and demolition.
• Bachelor's degree in construction management or business, or equivalent experience.

• Experience – Must have a strong working knowledge of bricklaying and all facets of refractory construction, as well as the market, materials, and equipment.
• Leadership – Need to manage hourly employees fairly and consistently. Must disperse work assignments equitably and develop/maintain standards of behavior. Work to strengthen employees and commit to the company culture and values.
• Service Oriented – Must listen closely to client's needs and patiently inform them how we can assist.
• Discernment – Need to know when to visit a jobsite to attain the most information and keep all parties informed.
• Customer Service – Must be willing to call on clients when needed, especially on service calls. Need to impart confidence.
• Integrity – Supervisors, craft employees, and clients will draw from your personal character. Honesty is paramount to everything we do. Must do what you say you will do.
• Hiring Skills – Need to have the interviewing skills to select goods candidates and avoid hiring disloyal, dishonest, or idle workers.
• System dedication – Must recognize the need for systems and protocols in business practices and assist the General Manager in creating, updating, and adhering to business function systems.
• Coaching Skills – Must display a willingness to patiently teach, question, and coerce improvements for staff and help develop future supervisors.
